TANF Cash Help Benefits and DART Passes

Texans who get TANF cash help benefits are given a Lone Star Card by the state of Texas. The Lone Star Card is an Electronic Benefit Transfer card that is used like a debit card. Learn more about the Lone Star Card.

Purchase DART Passes with the Lone Star Card

People who get TANF are able to use their Lone Star Card to purchase DART Monthly passes at reduced rates. These are standard DART passes, not Reduced Fare passes. When the card is swiped, the cashier enters the appropriate fare ($48 for Local Pass, $96 for Regional Pass) and the purchaser is issued a Local or Regional pass.

A person with TANF benefits and a Lone Star Card might not be able to buy a DART pass if:
  • There are no TANF benefit funds in the person's Lone Star Card account.
  • There aren't enough TANF benefit funds in the person's Lone Star Card account.
Note: Effective April 20, 2019, DART will no longer offer monthly passes at Pass Outlet locations. Monthly passes will be available for purchase at the DARTmart at Akard Station.
