DART employees spread holiday cheer
They may not have pointy elfin ears, but they wear DART chevrons and have big hearts.
Again this year DART employees are delivering a Merry Christmas to thousands of their fellow North Texans through a number of charitable groups. They have made record food and cash donations to the Union Gospel Mission of Dallas, collecting more than 10,000 pounds of food for the charity. This is the seventh year DART workers have supported the mission, which works with homeless individuals and families.
DART police officers loaded their white and blue sleighs with toys and grocery bags filled with turkey and all the trimmings for a happy holiday meal for 250 families. Food and toys for the third annual Santa Cops drive were collected through donations from area businesses and contributions from DART employees.
In addition to a number of individual families helped by groups of DART employees, other charities supported this holiday season include City of Dallas recreation centers, the Genesis Women's Shelter, the White Rock Center of Hope, Operation Christmas Gift and the Austin Street Shelter.
